The unspoilt and great diversity of marine life makes Vamizi Island a diver’s haven. A marine survey has identified 400 species of fish. There are 16 different dive sites, from shallow dives for beginners to vertical (wall) dives for those more experienced. One particular Vamizi site has been named as one of the top ten scuba sites on the planet. All diving and snorkelling equipment is available at Vamizi Island.
Keen fishermen can enjoy going further out beyond the vertical drop-off of the reef. Teams of predator fish including Sailfish, Marlin, Tuna, Giant Trevally and Wahoo are available. For those who favour fly-fishing, 12 different species of fish have been caught on fly up to date. Fly-fishing equipment is unfortunately not currently available, so please bring your own.
A variety of trails are available to those who wish to discover the island. These trails take visitors through the coastal forest and stops off in deserted sandy coves for a quick swim to cool off. Guests should keep an eye out for the myriad of animal life on Vamizi Island. The wide range of fauna and flora makes Vamizi Island a unique Mozambique holiday destination. These include a wide range of birdlife, Samango monkeys, Giant Coconut Crabs and Turtles who choose Vamizi’s beautiful protected beaches as nesting grounds.
Guests can make use of guided or solo kayaking adventures through the mangroves and shallow reefs. Alternatively, relax on one of the 2 shaded dhows which can be anchored off-shore at some of the most ideal snorkelling spots. Combined with a delicious picnic and a radio, guests can be dropped off and enjoy a few hours privacy and isolation in paradise. This adds a romantic flair to guests enjoying their Mozambique holiday. Visitors can also discover and explore a number of secluded coves.
Dining Guests can enjoy the beautiful scenery with some of the best food at Vamizi Island’s main dining room. The dining room is open and spacious. A sunset bar is located close to the water’s edge. Fresh ingredients adds to the Mediterranean and Indian Ocean flavourswhich includes fresh fish, prawns (when in season), calamari, lobster, crab and crayfish all cooked to perfection.
