Places in Inhambane
Inhambane is located in southern Mozambique and it is 470 km northeast of Maputo the capital city. Inhambane means ‘the place of the friendly people’. This town is one of the oldest towns in this part of Mozambique and goes back to the Portuguese in the 16th Century. The one place which is worth a visit is Linga Linga Nature Reserve which was also a whaling station. The reserve is now the last place for the rare aquatic mammal called the Dugong and the only way to see it is by dhow or a short boat ride.
Activities include walks to see the many old Portuguese colonial buildings in the town of Inhambane as well as having a look at the craft markets with lovely crafts such as straw baskets and mats.There are other attractions which are the Inhambane museum with all the interesting historical facts about Mozambique.
