The 4x4 Self-drive Adventure Experience

Our 13 Day 4x4 Self-drive Adventure package is aimed at South Africans who want the independence of doing a self-drive holiday that includes the Kruger National Park and Mozambique. It is a great way for a group of 4 to 6 friends or a family to travel to Mozambique. It is a great way to get a feel for the landscape and scenery.

This is the ideal bush and beach holiday package - see the amazing wildlife of Kruger and relax on the sandy beaches of Mozambique. Set out to explore northern Kruger while on game drives in search of the Big Five, as well as many other species of animals.

Then drive to Mozambique where you can relax on beautiful sandy beaches. Cook yourself some famous Mozambique seafood and delight in diving and the many other optional water activities on offer such as diving, sailing and snorkelling. Then cross the border back into South Africa and explore the southern regions of the Kruger National Park which offer different scenery to the northern regions.

Days 1-3: Johannesburg/ Pretoria to Kruger National Park

Antelope of the Kruger National Park. On the first morning of our 4x4 Self-drive Adventure Package you will drive through Mpumalanga, passing the Panorama Route. You will enter the Northern Kruger National Park through the Phalaborwa Gate. The journey will take most of the day depending on how much sightseeing you do. You will register your vehicle and drive to a rest camp where you will spend the next two nights in self-catering chalets. The camp has expansive lawns and lots of shady trees.

The camp is home to several shy Bushbucks and you may see them wandering through camp. In the morning you can head out on game drives to explore the region, which is known to have many Elephants. Seek out the other members of the Big Five, namely Lion, Buffalo, Leopard and Rhino. Keep an eye open for Buffalo and Hippo along the river. Giraffe are also commonly seen.

Days 3- 5: Kruger National Park to Xai Xai

Xai Xai sunset. Early in the morning on the third day of your Kruger Mozambique self-drive package you will have to check out and drive to the nearby Mozambique border post. Remember to have those passports handy. Once you have completed immigration you will head east up the Mozambique coastline to Xai xai.

The next two nights of your Mozambique holiday will be spent in a tranquil self-catering beach lodge. Once you have settled in you can take in the sunset while sipping on a refreshing drink or go on a leisurely stroll along the beach. Spend the next couple of days swimming in the warm waters of the Indian Ocean or work on your tan on the beach. Perhaps go on optional activities such as snorkelling on the nearby reef.

Days 5-7: Xai Xai to Vilanculos

Fishing boat. In the morning of day five you will leave Xai xai and drive north through the province of Inhambane to Vilanculos. You should arrive at your Mozambique beach lodge in the late afternoon. Once you have settled in perhaps have a refreshing dip in the sea or a nice cool drink. Vilanculos is the gateway to the renowned Bazaruto Archilpelago, which offers some of the best diving and most untouched beaches in the world.

The region has some of the best diving and snorkelling in the world with some of the most untouched reefs. The area is the last refuge of rare sea mammals called Dugongs and if you are incredibly lucky you may spot one on an optional diving expedition. Other optional activities include trips in traditional boats called dhows, fishing excursions or horse riding along the beach

Day 7-9: Vilanculos – Praia de Tofo

Mozambique. On the morning of day seven of your Mozambique holiday, you will check out of your beach lodge and drive south to Praia de Tofo which is world famous for its diving on Manta Reef. You will be staying in a comfortable lodge which has direct beach access and wonderful sea views. There are many fantastic restaurants in walking distance. Enjoy swimming and relaxing on the beach or optional activities such as diving, snorkelling, Volley ball, cricket, touch rugby, wind surfing, and horse riding.

Day 9-11: Praia de Tofo - Xai Xai / Bilene

Lodge balcony. On day nine of your Mozambique beach holiday you will check out of your beach lodge and drive south to Xai xai/ Bilene, where you will spend the next two nights in a beautiful wooden beach lodge. It is scenically situated between verdant dunes and a coastal forest. Enjoy swimming and long walks along the beach. Explore the local culture and visit the vibrant local markets.

Day 11-13: Xai Xai/Bilene - Kruger National Park

An exterior view of the camp surrounds. On the morning of Day 11 you will drive south and leave Mozambique by the Komatispoort border post and enter the southern region of the Kruger National Park. The next two nights will be spent in a bush camp in southern Kruger.
