Praia de Ouro Sul is situated in Ponta do Ouro, Southern Mozambique, approximately 30 minutes drive from the Kosi Bay border post between KwaZulu-Natal and Mozambique. The resort is 5 minutes drive from the village shops which can be reached by quad bikes or 4x4 vehicles.

This area is well-known for its excellent scuba-diving amongst world-famous coral reefs. Ponta do Ouro, Southern Mozambique is one of one of three key diving spots in this part of the country.

Climate

There are two main seasons, one wet and the other dry. Humidity is high in the south. The wet season, is from November to March (hottest months are December and January). The drier season is from April to October with average daily temperatures reaching up to 30°C / 86°F (coolest months are June and July). Seasonal temperatures vary by about 5 degrees with cooler nights especially in the dry season.

Directions to Praia de Ouro Sul

By Road

Tar roads lead up to the South African border post at Kosi Bay, but from there, you will need a 4x4 vehicle to drive on the thick, sandy roads to Ponta do Ouro and the resort. Safe parking is available at the border for a reasonable cost. Transfers from the border to Praia de Ouro Sul and back again to the border for visitors without 4x4 can be arranged.

By Air

One can fly in directly from Johannesburg, or Lanseria airport, to Kosi Bay with an Executive king Air 200 accommodating 8 passengers - each allowed 8kg baggage, or by Caravan taking 10 passengers - allowed 12kg luggage. Please note no dive cylinders are allowed on the plane. Diving gear and cylinders are available to hire in Ponta do Ouro. Cross-border road transfers to Praia de Ouro Sul and back can be arranged.

Shops and Facilities in Praia de Ouro Sul

Praia de Ouro Sul has a shop where you can buy basic necessities, cold drinks, snacks, sweets and fishing tackle. In Ponta do Ouro, guests will find a shopping centre where you can buy basic necessities and bakery goods including fresh bread, pies and cakes, cold drinks, etc; an open-air market, selling anything from vegetables to headache tablets; a few restaurants - one also serving light meals during the day; curio shops. There is a Spar and other local shops at Manguzi (KwaNgwanase) in South Africa, which is about 45 minutes drive from the resort.
