Casa Barry is located in Tofo, Mozambique which is 22km (14 miles) from the city of Inhambane. This friendly and welcoming destination has a lovely palm fringed beach and the water is warm all year round.
Inhambane has been a regular port of call since ancient sailing times, Vasco da Gama was a regular visitor here where calm seas and ample supplies could be found whilst he was on long sea voyages around Africa.
Tofo, Mozambique is a popular destination, with many people returning year after year. There are great rock and surf fishing opportunities and divers will find a professional fully equipped dive centre ready to teach and guide enthusiasts for excursions to a number of excellent diving sites along the coast for all experience levels.
Notes for visitors
The water at the lodge is sourced from the on-site boreholes and put through a high quality filtration process, it is safe to drink and most of the strong taste associated with borehole water close to sea is eliminated. Mozambique is populated by kind and gentle people and is extremely safe to travel in. As a standard service, Casa Barry has 24 hour security personnel on-site who are also most helpful in assisting guests and keeping an eye on children.
Visitors driving in Mozambique must have all necessary documentation for themselves and their vehicles (and boats) including log book, certified or original insurance documents as well as 3rd party insurance cover (forms available at border of entry). The speed limit is strictly enforced in all towns at 60km (37 miles) per hour, most towns have a traffic department and speed trapping devices and spot fines will be charged for offenders.
Directions to Casa Barry in Tofo, Mozambique
Guests can travel to Casa Barry in a regular vehicle, but a 4x4 is recommended for those wanting to visit many interesting sights en-route where access is often by sand road. Drivers coming from Johannesburg will enter at the Komatipoort border post, and those from KwaZulu-Natal will enter through Swaziland at Lomahasha or Goba border posts. Both routes will arrive at Maputo.
Upon entering Maputo there is a Toll gate, just after this take a left turn onto the EN1 road to XAI-XAI. The trip from Maputo to Xai Xai will take about 3 hours. Continue on the main road north to Inhambane, a 3 hour journey - then on to Tofo, which is about 22km (14 miles) further on; follow the signs to Casa Barry Lodge.
