Directions to Machampane Wilderness Camp, Limpopo National Park
The Machampane Wilderness Camp in Mozambique is located on the eastern edge of Kruger within the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park.
Limpopo National Park (Parque Nacional do Limpopo) is one of the great wilderness areas within Mozambique which forms part of the Great Limpopo Transfrontier Park. This is a Big Five game region and a new frontier for a safari with a difference.
Machampane Wilderness Camp is designed to have a small carbon footprint. It offers simple luxuries in a pristine bushveld setting. The camp is a community owned initiative run by knowledgeable and friendly staff.
Directions to Machampane Wilderness Camp, Limpopo National Park, Mozambique
The Limpopo National Park stretches along South Africa’s eastern border from Pafuri in the north to the Massingir Dam in the south. Border access is gained via the Giriyondo Border Post. You can reach the camp by road from Phalaborwa Gate (Kruger National Park) in a high clearance vehicle or from Maputo in a 4x4 vehicle. The camp is situated within a 1 hour radius of Massingir Dam.
By Road From South Africa
It is at least a 3 hour drive from Phalaborwa Gate (Kruger National Park) to the Giriyondo Border Post for entry into Mozambique
Enter at Kruger Park’s Phalaborwa Gate no later than 13h00 in summer and 12h00 in winter (April to September)
From Kruger’s Phalaborwa Gate take the main road to Letaba Rest Camp. At the speed limit, the minimum time required to reach Letaba is 60 minutes
Note: Letaba is the last place to get fuel and for cell phone reception
Take the main road from Letaba Rest Camp towards Mopani Rest Camp
After 19km (11 miles) turn right onto gravel (23:42.534S, 31:32.519E) to the Giriyondo border post. Follow the gravel road for 23km (14 miles) to the Giriyondo border post (23:35.018S, 31:39.614E). At the speed limit, the minimum time required to reach the border post from Letaba is 60 minutes.

You need to arrive at least 30 minutes before the closing time

- Winter: 1 April to 30 September: 15h00
From the border post to Machampane Wilderness Camp it is about 65 minutes drive From the Giriyondo border post, enter Parque Nacional do Limpopo (Limpopo National Park), follow the main road for 28km (17 miles) or about 50 minutes and keep right to Machampane Camp
After 800m turn right to Machampane Camp (23:45.607S, 31:49.385E). Follow this double track road for about 5km (3 miles) to Machampane Wilderness Camp. En-route to the camp you will pass the fenced “Game release boma” on your right.
Directions From Maputo
Take the EN1 Highway north from Maputo to Macia
In Macia, opposite the Engen garage, turn left and travel 60km (37 miles) to Chokwe
Continue straight through Chokwe for another 25km (16 miles) and turn left to Massingir (24:25.510S, 32:50.701E). If you reach the bridge over the Limpopo River you have missed the turn off
Travel for 105km (65 miles) to Massingir. Travel time from Maputo to Massingir is about 4 hours
Fuel is not always available in Massingir so you should fill up in Chokwe if necessary. It is about 66km (44 miles) from Massingir to Machampane Wilderness Camp (allow 90 minutes)
Depart from Massingir and travel over the dam wall to the Massingir Gate of Parque Nacional do Limpopo (PNL) or Limpopo National Park
Note: The Gate closes at 17h30 in the winter, and 18h00 in the summer From the park gate, stay on the main road and follow the signs marked “Giriondo border” for 50km (31 miles)
Take the Machampane Camp turnoff to the left, and approx 800m further on turn right towards Machampane Camp
Follow this double track road for about 5km (3 miles) to Machampane Wilderness Camp. En-route to the camp you will pass the fenced “Game release boma” on your right.
