This Mozambique lodge is located in a remote area near Inhambane, Mozambique, in totally natural and unspoilt surroundings. Pomene Lodge is situated north of Maputo and south of Vilanculos.
There are daily flights from Johannesburg to Inhambane followed by an air transfer to the lodge, or guests can drive from South Africa to Pomene Lodge via Maputo.
This picturesque setting in Pomene Bay Mangrove Estuary, Mozambique has pretty beaches and sand forest forming the peninsula upon which the lodge stands. Guests can explore the estuary or enjoy excellent diving amongst abundant marine life and beautiful corals.
Divers and anglers will find Pomene Lodge is an ideal base for discovering the wonders of this beautiful Mozambican coastline. There are, at present, 12 dive sites and many more that are unchartered. This area is also known for game fishing; guests will be tested in these waters where Wahoo, King Fish Tuna, Couta and Bill Fish live.
This particular Mozambique coastline is home to the Manta Ray, Whale Shark and many other amazing marine species. Pomene Bay Mangrove Estuary, Mozambique has various trails through it and visitors can also enjoy fun quad biking on scenic routes.
Directions to Pomene Lodge:
Pomene Lodge is 605km (376 miles) north of Maputo, and 170km (106 miles) south of Vilanculos. Guests travelling by car from South Africa can enter Mozambique at Komatipoort in Mpumalanga Province, or through Swaziland and northern KwaZulu-Natal.
For travellers coming from Johannesburg:
Take the N4 highway travelling past Witbank, Nelspruit and all the way to the Komatipoort border.
Once through the Ressano Garcia border post, follow the main toll road to Maputo.
From Maputo to Pomene Lodge:
When entering Maputo proceed through the toll gate and shortly after take a left turn onto the EN1 to Xai-Xai. This is the main coastal road north.
Pass villages of Maracuene, Manhica, Macia and Chissano to the town of Xai-Xai 204km (127 miles) north of Maputo, this is a good place to re-fuel.
Continue on the North Coastal Road passing smaller villages and towns, including Chidenguele, Quissico and Inharrime (372km or 231 miles).
From Inharrime continue on, passing Cumbano which has a large radio mast on the left side of the road to Lindela.
Continue straight up the EN1 past the Lindela turnoff and pass through Maxixe and then onto Massinga. Depart Massinga and continue for approximately10km (6 miles).
The turnoff to Pomene is on the right hand side. This turnoff becomes a dirt road and passes through the town of Rio das Pedros.
Pomene Lodge is 54km (34 miles) down this road. Continue driving and eventually the road enters the dune forest.
The last 8km (5 miles) is sandy and tyres will need to be deflated for this section of the road. Follow the signs to Pomene Lodge.
