Nuarra Lodge activities include diving, snorkelling, cruising, fishing and kayaking as well as cultural excursions, Eco-trails, walks, bush picnics and day trips to a World Heritage Site.
Watersport lovers can enjoy Nuarra Lodge activities year round in sheltered Memba Bay. Fantastic whale watching from the shore and from a boat is possible from June to November. These beautiful creatures swim right into the bay during the day and their haunting calls can be heard at night.
Marine activities:
Snorkelling Exquisite coral gardens can be discovered within Memba Bay and in the turquoise waters of the Baixo do Pinda Peninsula
Kayak trips Mangroves and secluded bays can be found along the shore as well as pristine beaches.
Fly and bottom fishing It is catch and release only in Memba Bay and along the peninsula where yellow fin tuna and king fish can be found.
Whale watching Get really close in the bay or see them come right in with their young between June and November.
Dhow sailing cruises These traditional wooden boats take guests out for sundowner cruises with drinks and snacks, and ultra romantic beach retreats and picnics.
Sea Kayaking Adventure and fun can be had whilst exploring the shore and mangroves.
PADI dive centre This is a fully equipped and professional centre offering courses for everyone including advanced divers who will enjoy the drift, wreck and multilevel dives. The centre handles all training and has well appointed change areas. Fully kitted craft with safety equipment and communications set off with qualified and experienced dive masters. The shore area is also wonderful for diving. Many sites have yet to be explored.
Land activities
Day trip to Ilha de Mocambique (World Heritage Site) Guests depart early for a 2 hour drive, one way, on part tar and part dirt roads through the countryside. Ilha has a fascinating mix of historical influences including Arabic, Swahili, Dutch and Portuguese. This excursion includes lunch.
Adventure day trips The drive takes 2 hours and 30 minutes on dirt roads (one way) travelling through Mozambique landscapes to arrive at the Lurio Waterfalls, located in the far north of the district. Guests can spot wildlife and enjoy a picnic next to the river. This trip is not possible in the rainy season from April to November.
Eco trails and bike tours These trails are laid out in Nuarro’s 10 hectare conservation area, optional bush-trails are also offered through mangroves and salt flats.
Early morning walks View the bay as the birds and wildlife come to life.
Bird watching This can be done throughout the conservation area at Nuarro.
Authentic cultural visits Interact with the community and enjoy either, informal or guided walks through Nanatha Village and the community centre. Support local crafters in their sustainable tourism endeavours, and maybe have a game of soccer with the local team.
