Barra Lodge is situated 485km north of Maputo and about 30 minutes from Inhambane, access by road is a pleasant drive by tarred road which is suitable for the passage of a normal vehicle. However, the last 7km leading to the lodge is a sand road where a 4x4 is necessary. Those with normal vehicles will be collected from a safe parking area.
The area is relatively dry, with an average yearly rainfall of 1000mm. The rainy season is between November and March and usually occurs as short, sharp showers. The climate is suitable for all year Mozambique holidays with summer being hot and winter being slightly cooler. Temperatures can be up to 30°C in summer and 22°C in winter. Sea water temperature varies from 23°C to 29°C.

Directions from Johannesburg:
Take the N4 past Witbank, Nelspruit and all the way to the Komatipoort border. Once through the Ressano Garcia border post, follow the main toll road to Maputo. As you enter Maputo, proceed through the toll gate and shortly after take a left turn onto EN1 to Xai-Xai. This is the main coastal road north.
Pass Villages of Maracuene (28 kilometres), Manhica (75 kilometres), Macia (143 kilometres) and Chissano to the town of Xai-Xai 204 kilometres north of Maputo, this is a good place to refuel. Continue on the North Coastal Road passing smaller villages and towns, including Chidenguele (262 kilometres), Quissico (392 kilometres) and Inharrime (372 kilometres).From Inharrime, continue for approximately 45 kilometres passing Cumbano which has a large radio mast on the left side of the road to Lindela. Keep a look out for a sign board on your left saying Lindela. Immediately after this sign the tar road forks, turn right. Inhambane is approximately 33 kilometres from this turn.
Once in Inhambane drive to where you see the harbour quay on your left. Turn left at Broad Road Ave. DA Independencia (it is possible that there are no road names up). Continue to the large semi-circle, turn right onto the road running at the back of the circle. Continue with this road - it bears left as you leave the town.
Keep on this road, passing the airport turn off on your left. Continue with this road for 18 kilometres. As you come over a rise you will find Babalaza Restaurant on your right. The tar road bears right and a sand road continues straight. Keep straight on the sand road and follow signs to Barra Lodge.
